Celebrating 40 Years of Vintages from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars with America's Auction House

Heritage Auctions is pleased to present The Legacy Collection from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars this spring at our Signature® Fine and Rare Wine Auction on March 10-11, 2022. This is the first time a California winery of this stature has opened their library at this level, demonstrating quality, craftsmanship and continuity across 40 years (2016 -1973), by presenting nearly 4,000 bottles at auction.

Known as the gateway to connoisseurship, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a favorite wine that is highly respected, seriously collected, and often enjoyed over a lifetime.

The landmark Cabernet Sauvignon winner of the legendary 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the "Judgment of Paris," in which French judges carried out blind tasting comparisons, resulting in the first time an American wine (Stag's Leap Wine Cellars for the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon and Chateau Montelena for the 1973 Chardonnay) won over a dominant French wine of its era. The result shocked the world. One French judge, Odette Kahn demanded her ballot back. The famous event inspired the "Judgment of Paris" book by George M. Taber and the film, Bottle Shock.

The Judgment of Paris put California wines and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars on the Global wine map. Over the decades, the Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' Cabernets -- FAY, S.L.V. and CASK 23 -- have become some of the most highly sought after and collected wines worldwide. For many collectors and lovers of red wine, there is a vintage to mark each of life's milestones.
